PROVIDENCE, R.I. โ United Natural Foods, Inc. is consolidating from four operations to three.
The three new regions will be called East, Central and West. In addition to consolidating operations, around 150 roles will be eliminated as part of the restructuring.
The restructuring will aim to simplify the companyโs structure and provide a more efficient model, which will support the companyโs independent retail and regional customer growth, according to the company.
The East Region will focus on areas from Maine to Florida and even Tennessee and will feature 22 distribution centers and service over 10,000 customers. The Central Region will be from the Mississippi River to the Rockies and will have 16 distribution centers and around 9,000 customers. The West Region will span from Utah to Alaska and have 14 distribution centers and about 11,000 customers.
โThese changes are a step in our transformation plan,โ said Sandy Douglas, chief executive officer, UNFI. โThe regional realignment will decrease layers of administrative management, increase leadersโ span of geographic responsibility, better align us to serve customers with less complexity, and support faster decision making. These changes are also intended to make our company more efficient and more profitable.โ
