Standard Meat to build protein processing plant in Texas

FORT WORTH, TEXAS โ€” Standard Meat Co. said it plans to start constructing a new protein processing plant in Fort Worth.

The 166,000-square-foot facility will sit in a renovated, historic 1955 meat processing plant in Fort Worthโ€™s northside, close to the Standard Meat Co.โ€™s headquarters in the Fort Worth Stockyards. The plant will be the fifth processing facility run by the company.

โ€œStandard Meat Company was founded in Fort Worth by our great-grandfather in 1935,โ€ said Ben Rosenthal, chief executive officer and co-president of Standard Meat Co. โ€œWith the location of our fifth plant here in the historic Stockyards area, weโ€™re not just constructing a facility, weโ€™re revitalizing a piece of our cityโ€™s industrial legacy. At Standard Meat, weโ€™re all-in on Fort Worth and on bringing new investment and jobs to the place weโ€™ve always called home.โ€

In 2023, Standard Meat purchased the building for development and expects to install a sous vide line. With an expanded capacity at the new site, additional sous vide lines will be available along with other production lines needed to explore future technologies and address emerging opportunities.

With this new plant, weโ€™ll have even more flexibility to introduce cutting-edge technologies and processes, doing everything we can do to drive business forward for our clients.โ€

Along with the announcement, Standard Meat named longtime employee Adam Speirs as plant manager for the new project. Speirs will oversee the finalization of construction, equipment installation and oversee the operations.

โ€œWeโ€™re always thrilled to fill management positions from within the company, and with Adam Speirs, we couldnโ€™t have asked for a better candidate,โ€ said Ashli Rosenthal Blumenfeld, co-president of Standard Meat Co. โ€œHe comes to this position with an 18-year track record of responsibility and excellence.โ€

Speirs serves on the design and construction team for the new plant and will coordinate company strategy with outside construction partner CSC Group and architecture and engineering partner Schemmer Group.
