WICHITA, KAN. – Cargill has acquired ProPortion Foods, a Los Angeles-based processor of fully cooked beef, pork and poultry products for customers in the foodservice and retail segments. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Founded in 2019, the company operates two processing plants that are included in the purchase – one in Vernon, Calif., and the other in Round Rock, Texas. The deal closed in December 2020 and is the next step in Cargill’s efforts to offer more value-added products to its portfolio, the company said.
Rob Stewart, managing director for growth ventures in Cargill’s North American protein business, said the two plants produce ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat products in single serving and family size portions for regional and national restaurant chains, including quick-service restaurants and casual dining concepts.
“We are investing in our future and look forward to growing the Cargill team and our presence in the southern and western US while continuing to build our customer portfolio,” Mr. Stewart said.
Brian Levy, co-founder of ProPortion Foods, said he and the other three founders of ProPortion are proud of their commitment and hard work to build the successful company.
